Homelab Rack Build (Top-Down Layout)

Here’s my current rack layout from top to bottom:

Current Build (Top to Bottom)

  • UniFi UDR7 router/AP sitting on top
  • 1U cable modem on a shelf (planning to 3D print a mount for it)
  • 1U 4-port patch panel with UniFi Flex 2.5 switch
  • 2 × 0.5U 12-port patch panels
  • 1U blank plate
  • 1U custom mount for 2 Dell DVD drives (one upgraded to a Blu-ray drive)
  • 1U custom mount for 2 Dell DVD drives
  • 1U Dell 5060 MFF PC (i5-9600T, 16GB RAM, 2 × 1TB SSDs)
  • 1U Dell 5060 MFF PC (i5-9600T, 16GB RAM, 2 × 1TB SSDs)
  • 1U Dell 7050 MFF PC (i5-7600T, 16GB RAM, 2 × 1TB SSDs)
  • 1U Dell 7040 MFF PC (i5-7600T, 16GB RAM, 2 × 1TB SSDs)
  • 2U blanking plate with a surge protector and power for the rack

Next Step / Expansion Plan

I’m looking to expand to a second T2 to add:

  • Additional DVD and Blu-ray drives
  • More networking capacity for the house
  • Networking to support security cameras
